How is it the search engine gives me so much grief!? ><* It's completely unbelievable how the search engine is always experiencing "Technical Difficulties". I mean really, FF, can you fix you're search engine once and for all. It's making me constantly PO'ed.

Feb. 20, 2011: I think it stopped working. I'm searching for Devil May Cry Fanfics and I narrow my search and only one result comes out. That's never happened before. Now, unless everyone who wrote fics for DMC took them down on a whim in the last 2 weeks, then it should act like that. But since this is FF.net I wouldn't put it past another "Technical Difficulty" Why-oh-why FF? Why? Why can't you just work for once in your life?

Honestly, it does this to me quite often, too. And what's weird is, I'll go back like ten, fifteen, or so minutes later and it will work. Then go back to not working.

I hate the FFN search engine with a passion. Ever since they dumbed it down (under the guise of 'people claimed it froze their comps'; bullshit) it has been buggy as hell. It's ridiculous how a simple search has now turned into such a tedious process - and that's if you don't experience an ever present 'technical difficulty'.

Ditto; I'm extremely skeptical about the so called lock-up complaints.

I believe so. Instead of leaving well enough alone, they probably tinkered with the search engine, yet again, and unleashed the unholy 'technical difficulties' demon.

I haven't noticed that myself, but I'm not surprised. It's really, really buggy.

It's the FEBRUARY CURSE of ff.net. Every February for the past 5 years, either something has gone catastrophically wrong/and or there is an even more frequent breakdown of search/stats/whatever.

STATS DOA

My stat counter on both ff.net and Fiction Press are both not counting yet alerts and reviews on both.

I KNEW IT. I wasn't just crazy or over paranoid. Hope it gets fixed by Wednesday night. =/

As always, a relief to know that it is not just me. I felt like the day was slow even before the stats went, but can't really say as it had been a couple of days since i had updated.

So. Will it be a ten day or a two day crash?

No not just you... both fanfiction.net and fictionpress.com have stats not working.

Why don't they just unpin stats from whatever they're trying to upgrade, dammit? I've had a long WIP going for the last 4 months and the stats keep going down on it. It's freaking ANNOYING.

I will never understand why this always happens whenever i update. They claimed they fixed this problem. Yet it still occurs. Do they have a clue what they are doing?

It's all in how you define "solved." Apparently, it has a secondary meaning of "recurring."

In truth, it's better in that they can retrieve our last stats now. But it's worse in that when they go down it seems to last for ten days at a clip instead of overnight.

Fastest response to an email I ever sent them too! About them identifying the issue, fixing it and then filtering stats back. FictionPress is showing today's and starting yesterdays and Fanfiction.net is showing today's but not yesterday's yet.

Why oh why does the search engine have to be so annoying!!!!!! When ever you click update or publish date only one story shows up? >_<

Date: 2011-02-23 12:28 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
Whoa, I got one result too. I ended up clicking on the one story and then clicking on the series name/link in it - which brought me to the page(s) with all the stories. It's an indirect way to get the same result as a search, but it works.

Has anyone noticed that Tuesday's and Wednesday's hits seem oddly few? That's happened to my account, but it's also happened to a C2 community I run that normally gets a ton of hits, and it looks bizarre. It's like the counter has been working sporadically since Monday.

I thought everything with the traffic counter seemed fine, up until yesterday. Now I have one of those situations where there are hits to my profile page but 0 hits to any stories, which seems fishy. Possible, I suppose, but unlikely.

my stats were working fine until this afternoon. When i try to access the page i get the following message

This is from Fiction Press account and I haven't yet seen it on Fan Fiction account but expect to see it soon. The stats are so buggy for both it's ridiculous. I just hope the login doesn't decide to crash too. I notified the Fiction Press email contact but it's been crashing so much lately on the weekends.
