[not] [cool]

Wasn't even a member of this community but this just pissed me off so much:

FF.net, where are my goddamn []'s in story titles? I tend to, you know, use those since you don't permit me the use of frigging logical parentheses! And I've gotten a little attached to my brackets, thank you, as they tend to look nicer and they help separate information such as the pairing or warnings from the rest of the summary so as not to confuse the majority of people suffering from mental retardation on the Pit!

You better bring those fucking brackets back or so help me, I will summon the troops and this palace will burn tonight/in the near future.

Oh I know! About three other fics of mine still have brackets and I just uploaded my newest story, and NO BRACKETS. That's how I separate the summary and the couple!

My summary now looks ugly.

Stroies turn purple? That doesn't happen to me unless I've clicked the story. D:

I noticed that as well, I wonder what the hell is up with that place.

I am beginning to think their eventual goal is to steal all of our punctuation and leave us all writing like this You have not distracted us with your random feature de jour you sneaky punctuation jackals We will have our rightful parentheses

I can not believe how difficult it is to type like this Argh

(In all seriousness, when they start taking out more parentheses I feel kind of justified in this paranoia. They might not take the periods, but I worry about the exclamation marks. We need those!)

Wait, summaries or story titles? I can understand them not allowing them in titles, because... well, it doesn't seem to make much sense to me (please, prove me wrong). But in summaries-- yeah, that does seem bogus. However, I do believe a Google search on getting around FFnet's banninated characters (and a list of just what they are, since FFnet has no source page saying what's allowed and what's not in terms of character input/limit) will reveal the answer to getting your beauteous brackets back.

I agree.

Also, I obviously tried the Google search myself, but by Google-fu is weak tonight; if you have better luck than I do, be sure to share the link; I know it was around a while ago, perhaps on FFR, but I can't remember!

I think you may be looking for this -- which for some strange reason doesn't work for me. *sigh*

No idea whether it's because I'm using a laptop instead of a PC or whether it's because of a non-US IPS, but ... *shrugs*

I'm still mad at them for not allowing hyphens in summary and titles. Especially when they're used all the time in French. I hate being forced to make grammatical mistakes. And now they went and banned the []s? I still wonder why I'm still using this site...

Simple, they are the biggest fanfic site; and thus, they grow bigger simply due to their size. You can't really find any somewhat/theoretically-easy-to-navigate sites out there with good content that is new.(Also, many that you do find are specialty sites since they're hosted by one dedicated fan's computer) All the new writers who get ideas from something go on the net, search for a big website with many stories with high traffic, and are immediately drawn to FF.net. They then either just do what they can there, become jaded and do it on a blog or lesser known site, or get frustrated and give up entirely.

It's an online monopoly.

Same! Now I have to find something else to stick my pairings in. Stupid colons look ugly, and it's the only thing I can find >>;

I went looking for a Fanfiction.net rant community just so I could rant about this very problem. God, this is getting ridiculous, and of course they have no easy for us to contact them issues we have with the site. Why the hell would they take out the brackets? I'm with you, if they don't bring brackets back, I'm just done with them.
