Here's to saying that Ao3 isn't the only fanfic place out there. (Though most of you are probably going to go.) You also don't need a key/inv sent to you.

http://www.lunaescence.com isn't bad either. This is what comes up on the Welcome page:

Welcome to the Lunaescence Archives, a moderated archive dedicated to quality Anime, Manga, and Gaming Fan Fiction.

All stories in this archive have been screened for spelling, grammar, and more. We don't feel that authors need to be perfect, but we do recognize the importance of good writing. All authors featured on these pages are talented and gifted writers, each with their own unique style and genre. Also, in addition to fan fiction we also welcome authors of original prose and poetry.

It is not only for Anime/Manga and Gaming. Those are just the big categories.

Here are the categories:

Anime & Manga
Books
Cartoons & Comics
Miscellaneous
Gaming
Original Stories
Movies & TV
Poetry & Song
Real Person
Nonfiction

Here's an image of the rules when you want to submit a story/chapter. You might have to save the picture and view it on your computer to read the rules...Sorry but I don't know how to link it so that it can be seen bigger.

Hope I helped. =D

Pretty small potatoes considering what else has happened this week, but I just got this review on a Batman fic (rantworthy part excerpted):

"nice to see Ron have a change of heart at the last
mintue and decided to be clean and tell ** the truth. :D

Still I'm confuse, does ** know of the restraining order that Bruce received
last chapter ?"

Folks... if your fandom includes a character named "Dick," it appears that his name may be censored in reviews and PMs.

I might message them about the "jackdonkey" move they made. I'd use the correct term, but it might get censored before it reaches their inbox.

ETA: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] klutzygirl for advising me how to fix!

Removing stories with cursing in the title/summary? Well, I don't agree, and I think they should be more fair about warning first (instead of trying "most users got a warning from other users first" bullshit), but, well, okay.

Removing stories with explicit sex and violence? Well, I disagree with that too, especially because the definitions are so arbitrary and inconsistently applied. As I mentioned on a previous post, they would probably take down the Hunger Games or Harry Potter books if they were fics on that site, despite the fact that both have teenagers as a/the primary audience. Not to mention that adult stuff is, for many people, the entire reason they use the site. But I guess I could see that too. Their site, their rules and all that.

But deleting entire accounts with no warning? Removing stories with "blood" or "kill" in the summaries? Really? Fanfiction, we need to have a talk. This is getting out of hand. There's a difference between cleaning the site up and taking the enjoyment out for everyone and alienating your users. At this rate, you are going to drive many of your users away from the site and thus lose advertising revenue. If you want to clean up your site, there are much better and smarter ways to do it.

If they had handled this whole thing better, I might not have minded so much. But this is beyond stupid.

June 4th 2012 -- Notices: •Please note we would like to clarify the content policy we have in place since 2002. FanFiction.Net follows the Fiction Rating system ranging from Fiction K to Fiction M. Although Fiction Ratings goes up to Fiction MA, FanFiction.Net since 2002 has not allowed Fiction MA rated content which can contain adult/explicit content on the site. FanFiction.Net only accepts content in the Fiction K through Fiction M range. Fiction M can contain adult language, themes and suggestions. Detailed descriptions of physical interaction of sexual or violent nature is considered Fiction MA and has not been allowed on the site since 2002.

No word about summaries needing to be rated K, though...

ETA: Yes, I see it in the general rules that you need to consent to before posting a story, but they haven't mentioned it in their latest heads-up.
