Fanfiction.net Type 1 Errors

Anybody else getting errors like this when they go to their story or user stats? I e-mailed support about this a couple of days ago, but still this is happening. (>_<)

(I've blacked out a couple of things because they could reveal personally identifying information, but this is the gist of the error message)

(Added 08/31/2015 : The error no longer happens, but it looks like all stats accumulated were lost once the Type 1 Error started happening)

(Added 09/02/2015 : And now ff.n is throwing 503 errors on the author page)

(Added later on 09/02/2015 : No more 503 errors! Stats are still missing for the days Type 1 Errors were being thrown, but at least now I can see my stats page again!)

Not that, but my stats have not updated in two days. Tables and charts are there, just stagnant.

Good idea. Done!

Seems to work perfectly fine for me.

Yep, I've had this for four days now. I emailed FFnet twice, tried to contact them on twitter, no luck so far.

Yep, for about a week now. Emailed support twice, no answer. Tweeted them, no answer.

Not that I'm writing for stats, but it's nice to see them regardless.

My main account (14 fics) has been giving me errors for a week now, but my sock account (2 fics) is still loading. I think it has to do with the number of fics, if anything.

Of note: the sock account's stats are loading, but they show no hits for the past week--as long as the errors have been happening. I think it's the Pit's usual three-times-a-year stats problem.

It will start working again, eventually. *sigh*

i think it might have more to do with what server you're one. Both of my accounts have more than 14 fics on them, both load but show no stats. (My thought about which server you're on comes from a few years ago when someone, somewhere was able to track that as the reason some people's worked and some people's didn't. Honestly, I personlly don't know enough to say whether that logic holds.)

[identity profile] slr2moons.livejournal.com 2015-08-29 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with you now, actually. Yesterday I asked a friend with over 30 posted fics if her stats page would load, and it did. Without showing any hits, though.

I believe it IS an issue of different servers. I just wish they'd fix it! I love keeping an eye on my stats. :P

It's been like this for me for the past four days. I emailed the error message to them but I won't hold my breath for a response. As usual, there's no acknowledgment of the problem on their twitter or blog.

Error 503

[identity profile] lpatamon.livejournal.com 2015-09-01 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
Right now I'm getting a 503 error when I try to go to my user control panel =/

What I find quite odd is that there hasn't been new updates about any movement on the site since May o.o

Fanfiction.net portal and the blog show as latest news one from May 2, 2015 =/

[identity profile] hittosama.livejournal.com 2015-09-01 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I have an error 503 now =D "No server is available to handle this request." yay!
[EDIT] It's for all the login area actually.

There had been an error effecting FFN for the last few days. The error had to do with uploading stories and other miscellaneous things in the settings page of various writers. So, that whole area has been blocked off until the situation is fixed. That is probably why you can't log on.

My profile won't come up at all. My readers probably think I'm not going to finish the story I just started. but yeah it comes up as error 503 and tech support is doing the samething when you try to leave a post.

Everything is back for me. I'm in France so maybe Europeans servers are back online?

[identity profile] newdf.livejournal.com 2015-09-02 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Login area is back for me. Still missing stats from 8/23-8/31 (and possibly more recently unless I really did only get one hit each of the last two days -- which would be somewhat odd).

[identity profile] hittosama.livejournal.com 2015-09-03 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
Woke up this morning and the stat pages are gone again but the login area works.
I checked yesterday when it worked and had no stats between 8/24 and 8/31, but it worked in September.

Fanfiction.net type 1 errors

The site is back up for me. I think the admins are just stupid and don't know what they are doing. They prefer to keep us in the dark rather than telling us about issues. Sometimes I get so frusturated with this site that I think about leaving, but end up staying. The site was not like this when I first joined. Back then, the admins actually fixed problems and communicated with users if there were problems, but times have changed.

I would, too, and punish them if they didn't stay on top of stuff like this. And I'd have them purge all the Bagginshield stories in the Hobbit fandom and also have them purge the Durincest stories. I don't read stories like that, but the very idea of Fili and Kili being like that is offensive to me, as well as Thorin and Bilbo being anything other than good friends. I would also have them ban the authors that write that trash. They are sick if they only write that kind of stuff. I'd also have them purge The Lord of The Rings fandom of all the slash stories and only allow stories with relationships that are true to the books on the site so it would be pure and we wouldn't have to read anything offensive. I'd also have them not allow any foreign authors to post stories on this site and make them stay on their country's version of this site, and I'd have them man the profile hit counter constantly and they could sleep in the building so they wouldn't be too far away and I would visit them every day to make sure they were behaving, and if they weren't, I would send them somewhere else to work.

Wow, you're talking censure there and that's not the topic of this post. More importantly, maybe you have a problem with this kind of stories but it's fiction and hurts no one. You may find it repulsive or whatever, but, still, censure. Not good.

And foreign author here, writing fanfics in English, hi! Why don't you try to make your own site if you're not happy and have incredibly ridiculous demands? We'll see how it works =)
(I hope you're joking.)

I wouldn't mind if the admins actually deleted the NC-17 material on FFnet since it's against their rules.

But, take it from someone who managed databases for a living, working on a website this huge is hell. It's a freaking lot of data. If you try to optimize a page for it to load faster for example, you'll end up with a problem somewhere else because there is a high probability you'll forget about that variable you just changed but which is also called from another page. It's a nightmare, and I'm not even talking about the database parts of the job.

FFnet can work on their communication, yes, but otherwise, give them a break.

FFN formatting for stories

I have been using fanfiction for about three years now and have just started writing a Mortality Doctrine fic. I still cannot figure out how to make the line break [shift+enter] and how do I use the tab key for dialogue? also, why do french quote arrows do not work, it is annoying as I had planned to use them for electronic interaction between characters. I will eventually have more questions. My username is the same on FFN as this sites.

Type 1 error

Ok. I know this is supper late, and I mean really late. But I was on Fanfic.net on the movies tab looking for Guardians of the galaxy fanfics, but when I clicked on the letter g that error came up. It constantly came up when I was trying to update some things on my profile... Idk if this is happening to more people than just me, I hope not, but it's getting annoying... I'm super sorry this is so danm late, 2 years late actually. I wasn't paying attention. Sorry again.

I'm facing the exact same issue. When I try to click Manage Stories from the web, I get the foll error message: "FanFiction.Net Login Required You must be logged in to access this page. Please Login. If you believe this message is in error, please clear your browser cookies and try to login again." Please resolve. Donna Vito Fruttie
