In my last contribution here I posted an email I wrote to Fiction Press in response to the "improvements" at that site and FF.net. Then I woke up this morning, and whereas there's usually fire and brimstone and the need to sip ice cold water and wear Bermuda shorts, today it was bitter ice cold with icicles forming and the parka and long johns came out.
The really hot place for sinners had frozen over! Fiction Press actually fixed (hopefully permanently) the drop down menu breakdown involving both the editing boxes for document manager and profile as well as the stat charts. So that information is accessible at last! The heavens rejoiced, angels sang because seriously those things had been broken since September which I believe is seven months ago.
You see nothing's impossible, miracles do happen and occasionally even months later things get repaired at least until they break again. They must have literally gotten hundreds of emails on these latest breakages.
In FF.net news, I have been writing up a storm for different fandoms and meeting new people who drop by when that site's running. I had a couple missing chapters here and there that have to be reposted, my alerts are still sometimes erratic and every once in a while I get weird error messages that go away when I reload the page. New and fun writers in some of the smaller fandoms which is always great. Sometimes with the smallest fandoms it takes encouraging readers to give writing a shot. Some hesitation at first, sometimes explaining how the document manager works (as there's no real manual) but when the stories finally spill out, they've proven very good. Do people from smaller fandoms have similar experiences? Happy when new writers show up, frustrated when it still seems very small?
But there's always alas, that waiting for the next shoe to drop. So scrambling to do more writing until that happens and once again, frustration and the scratching of heads hits. So enjoy it for now, the calm before the next storm.
Oh No!!!!!!!!!!!! Disaster has struck because when I went over to FF.net not long after Fiction Press had those broken parts of it finished, Guess What??????
Now the FF.net editing boxes in Document Manager are not working and are having the same problems! Yes, I tried refreshing and all I got was a bigger box yet...but all the buttons including the ability to insert transitional lines was gone! Went back to Fiction Press to see what happened there and it still worked...went back to FF.net and you get the drift. Either the skinny HTML box or the larger box without buttons. WTH, so one works and the other breaks?
I had to laugh seriously at first. I couldn't help myself but then AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!
