So I'm browsing Wikipedia. I come across the "Alternative universe (fan fiction)" article. (Side rant: who calls them 'alternative universes' instead of 'alternate universes'?) I look it over. Ooh! Somebody referenced a fic I like! Oops! It's filed under the wrong subset of AU. I fix. I notice, some of these subsets of AUs are lacking examples. I try to think of a particular story I can refer to for the 'denial fic' subset. I fail. I know I saw fics on ff.n where it was stated in the summary that Sirius didn't die (why yes, I'm a Harry Potter geek). I go to ff.n and run a search for HP stories with summaries containing "Sirius didn't die" (planning to rephrase and try again if that fails me). I get "Unable to perform search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes."
It's been a few minutes. I try again. Same thing.
No point even looking for somebody to email and complain. I'd rather they work on getting alerts back up.
Grr.
*makes sure her edits look all right without the links, saves, goes to lunch, crosses fingers that the search function is running when she comes back*
