My thoughts on this deleting drama

Removing stories with cursing in the title/summary? Well, I don't agree, and I think they should be more fair about warning first (instead of trying "most users got a warning from other users first" bullshit), but, well, okay.

Removing stories with explicit sex and violence? Well, I disagree with that too, especially because the definitions are so arbitrary and inconsistently applied. As I mentioned on a previous post, they would probably take down the Hunger Games or Harry Potter books if they were fics on that site, despite the fact that both have teenagers as a/the primary audience. Not to mention that adult stuff is, for many people, the entire reason they use the site. But I guess I could see that too. Their site, their rules and all that.

But deleting entire accounts with no warning? Removing stories with "blood" or "kill" in the summaries? Really? Fanfiction, we need to have a talk. This is getting out of hand. There's a difference between cleaning the site up and taking the enjoyment out for everyone and alienating your users. At this rate, you are going to drive many of your users away from the site and thus lose advertising revenue. If you want to clean up your site, there are much better and smarter ways to do it.

If they had handled this whole thing better, I might not have minded so much. But this is beyond stupid.

Well, in the end, they were never a user friendly site. As in, answering emails to support and stuff like that. So, even though the majority of us are screaming "You're doing it wrong!" they really don't care. At the moment it really is the only large site out there, and the loss of a "few" members probably won't affect them so much. They're on a slow sinking ship and hopefully they'll soon realize that acting like dicks to their members is a bad thing. But sadly, I doubt they'll realize that. All we can do is support friendlier sites like AO3.

The problem is ffnet is an auto site. It is difficult if not impossible to get the attention of any human being behind the scenes. They don't moniter so allow all manner of content. I know how difficult it is to get stories removed from their. Right now they have one of the most offensive ffstories of all time still on site its plagarised and posted by a Troll. It remains despite emails to the mods and reporting the fic. Why becuase they don't actually care about the true integtiry of the site. Because that takes effort.

If they want to control what's on there they need to moderate each submission.

A lot of what they have done is justified I have seen some appalling stuff in the past months. However it would not have hurt to have given people a warning. In three weeks time we are going to start a clean up of the site. We will be applying the following etc.

And on top of this we have to deal with petty little trolls who take enjoyment in seeing other peoples hard work destroyed...Dont get me started but I refuse to argue with anyone who is a sandwich short of a picnic.

F**k FFDN and their cow-towing to the bible thumpers! What's the point in having the f**king rating system if you're not going to look at it before opening up a fic? WTF-ingF?! I'm an avid reader, I'm on there everyday and it pisses me off that these mofos have f**ked my sh** up!! I have favorite stories missing and they're replacing character names and such, which totally messes with continuity. FFDN has completely FUBAR-ed their site and I think we should boycott. I'll take my happy a** over to adultfanfiction.net instead. Instead of catering to these quite obviously narrow-minded, too much time on my hands prudes - they should just put an age confirmation. 'Cuz you know what? A lot of peeps that frequent FFDN are adults, we are grown a** people and I don't need you telling me wtf I can and can not read in a fictional story based on already fictional works. Get over it and for Creezy's sake drop the chastity belt like it's a bad habit. No one's holding a gun to your head making you read from this site and there's more like me than there are like you and that's money in yo' bank, b**ches. Hallelujahs.

Sincerely,
